Computer graphics

Computer graphics are graphics formed using computers and the depiction of image data by a computer especially with help from dedicated graphic hardware and software.

The communication and understanding of computers and interpretation of data has been made simpler because of computer graphics. Computer graphic development has had a major impact on many types of media and has transformed animation, movies and the video game industry.

The term computer graphics has been employed in a wide sense to describe “almost everything on computers that is not text or sound". Usually, the term computer graphics refers to a number of different things:


  • the depiction and handling of image data by a computer
  • the different technologies used to produce and control images
  • the sub-field of computer science which studies methods for digitally synthesizing and controlling visual content
